Public artworks beautify a city and make it nicer to live in. There are lots of sculptures, environmental artworks and paintings in Vaasa's streets and public buildings. One body that made this art treasure possible is the Gröndahl Brothers' Foundation. Its donations have allowed the City of Vaasa's museums to make art acquisitions for more than 40 years now. 'Taidetta kaupunkiin / Konst för en stad' (Art for a City!) offers a multifaceted view of the history of the Foundation and profiles interesting art acquisitions from the different decades. It tells us how Vaasa's public artworks have been used to generate meanings in the urban environment and reinforced the local identity.
