About the author: Born in Brazil since 1975, Maria Angélica Melendi is currently an important name in the theoretical and critical reflection of the visual arts, mainly Brazilian and Latin American, and has worked with considerable prominence as a teacher in the city of Belo Horizonte since the 1980s, including the formation of important artists and thinkers of the city's art, such as Paulo Nazareth, Marilá Dardot, Cinthia Marcelle, Lais Myrrha, Sara Ramo, Julia Rebouças, João Castilho, Ines Linke, among other names. Born in Buenos Aires in 1945, Melendi arrives in Belo Horizonte in 1975, at the critical moment of military regieme in Argentina, which lasted from 1976 to 1985. In Brazil, she studied Visual Arts at the Escola Guignard Foundation (currently the Guignard / UEMG School) of which she became a teacher in 1986. In the 1990s, she began to deal with theoretical aspects of production in the Visual Arts, mainly related to the post Second War period.
