Staphorst intrigeert.
"Staphorst is intriguing. That's what the artists who visited the village from the nineteenth century found. In the Overijssel village they found motifs in the people, the houses and the farming landscape. Staphorst never became an artist colony such as Laren or Bergen. Most of the painters here were passers-by. Except for one woman: Stien Eelsingh. She continued to live in 'the white farm' until her death in 1964. 'The painters of Staphorst' introduces us to painters such as Lammert van der Tonge, Jan Sluijters, Jo Koster and of course Stien Eelsingh on the basis of a few themes. What the Staphorst painters were looking for is clear: the Staphorst artwork. The architecture, the farms with bright green shutters, blue window frames and the tree of life above the door. Bright red farm wagons and milk bus racks in blue and white. But above all the Staphorsters themselves, who could be depicted so picturesque"--translated note, page 4 of cover
