Doublethink-Double vision

Doublethink. Double vision's title alludes to George Orwell?s seminal work 1984 and offers a reading of alternative thinking methods. The word ?Doublethink? was invented to demonstrate how the State was taking over the individual?s mind. Doublethink is the ability to hold two contradictory ideas in your mind at the same time and believe in both of them. Artists from around the world are showing how to develop not just doublethink, but polythink, thinking along multiple parallel or tangential lines at the same time. The exhibition catalogue reflects the changing ways of thinking and communication in arts with the curator Alistair Hicks? texts and his selection of artworks at the exhibition. Studying the friction between the visual and the verbal and aiming to point at the radical transformation experienced in ways of thinking under doublethink, the exhibition presents the works of these artists, amongst others: Yuri Albert, Sarnath Banerjee, Olga Chernysheva, Marilá Dardot, Tracey Emin, Claire Fontaine, Sandra Gamarra, Duan Jianyu, Anselm Kiefer, Galim Madanov & Zauresh Terekbay, Bruce Nauman, Raymond Pettibon, Nedko Solakov, Erdem Tasdelen.00Exhibition: Pera Museum, Beyoglu/Istanbul, Turkey (25.5. - 6.8.2017).
