Funeral book recounting and depicting the state funeral of Carlo Emanuele II, Duke of Savoy, in 1675.

Illustrated with an engraved allegorical frontispiece, an allegorical portrait of the Duke confronting Death and 5 large double-folding engraved plates by Georges Tasnière after Giovanni Antonio Recchi and Carlo Giuseppe Cortella. The folding plates detail the elaborate structures and decorations created for the event: the catafalque with the body; a grand view of the funeral procession winding through the Piazza Castello (showing the old facade of Palazzo Madama); a view of the black-draped cathedral entrance (with a specially constructed temporary façade adorned with mourning and allegorical figures); and two interior views of the cathedral, showing its gloomy transformation (with the ceiling draped in black cloth covered with thousands of silver tears, and enormous skeletal figures lining the nave).
