Rider's dictionary was first issued in 1589 with title: Bibliotheca scholastica. Later editions had title Riders Dictionarie, the 1606 edition "corrected and augmented by F. Holyoke," the 1612 and 1617 editions with the "Dictionarium etymologicum" of F. Holyoake annexed. The 1617 edition caused Holyoake to be charged with "extensive plagarism." In the 1626 and later editions Holyoake's contributions were altered and amplified by Nicholas Grey.--cf. STC and Dict. nat. biog. (articles on Grey, Holyoake and Rider).
