An edition of Amsterdam streethearts (2017)

Amsterdam streethearts

LGBT people from all over the world flock to Amsterdam in the month of August for the Gay Pride, the Drag Queen Olympics and the Hartjesdagen. The rainbow flag goes out and everyone is "pretty in pink" during the boat parade. The party month is only over after extravagantly dressed drag queens have paraded over the Zeedijk during the centuries-old popular festival Hartjesdag. Photographer Shirley Agudo became fascinated by these exuberant and free-spirited manifestations. For many years she photographed the visitors of the festivities and shows their flamboyant outfits in the bilingual book 'Amsterdam Streethearts'. Backstage she was also allowed to closely follow the process of transformation and we see this for the first time in book form.
