In 2013, art collectors Pieter and Marieke Sanders gifted the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam over 100 artworks by contemporary artists. Now, for the first time, a selection of work from their donation will be shown in dialog with the Stedelijk's existing collection. The exhibition features work by artists including Jan Andriesse, Marinus Boezem, Alicia Framis, Ryan Gander, David Jablonowski, Job Koelewijn, Navid Nuur, Paulien Oltheten, Amalia Pica, Stephen Waddell, Marijke van Warmerdam and WassinkLundgren. Exhibition: Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (19.09.2015-03.01.2016).

Edition Notes

Photographs by Johannes Schwartz, graphic design and image editing by Julie Peeters, essay by Cornel Bierens, poem by Maria Barnas, texts by Beatrix Ruf and Pieter and Marieke Sanders, and an interview with Pieter and Marieke Sanders by Bart Rutten, Anne Ruygt and Hripsimé Visser.

"The title eloquently conveys the nature of this publication: neither a description of the collection, nor a catalogue accompanying the exhibition at the Stedelijk, but a work of art in its own right, inspired and informed by our collection. ... [W]e invited four artists to consider what collecting means to the collector, what art in the home offers the viewer, how art cannot be considered separate from its context, and what it means to gradually say farewell to all those cherished objects"--Page 119.

"This publication was commissioned by Pieter and Marieke Sanders and realized on the occasion of the exhibition "Addition - Gift Pieter and Marieke Sanders" in the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, September 19, 2015-Jan. 3, 2016."--Colophon.
