An edition of Victoria (2000)

Victoria

Premiered at London's Barbican in 2000, 'Victoria' is a trilogy in one play, telling the story of three generations of rich and poor in the Scottish Highlands. Grasping the huge theme of the split in the country's culture between puritan repression and libertarian openness, it revolves around three different Victorias: a 1930s servant who emigrates when she becomes pregnant by a feckless student; a 1970s American geologist looking for oil, who marries the feckless student's son; the 1990s spoilt daughter of the American geologist.
