Edition Notes

The results of the astronomical observations of the Expedition were designed to form v. 4 and 5 of the reports of the Expedition, of which v. 1-3 and 6 were published in 1855-56. Vols. 4 and 5 were not published, the material for v. 4 having been published by the U.S. Naval Observatory in 1871 as appendix 1 to the Washington observations for 1868, while that for v. 5 is here originally published.

Reproduction of the original from the Library of Congress.
