A people in revolution against foreign domination asked a famous philosopher to draft a constitution. This scenario is representative of the Enlightenment in many ways, and in 1765 a draft of the constitution was constructed in Corsica by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Written shortly after the condemnation of his political treatise, Du contrat social, the text allowed him to make legislators and put his theories into reality. Unfinished and unknown, however, the draft constitution marks a turning point in the political thought of Rousseau, which was not unrelated to his falling out with Geneva, his hometown.
