Edition Notes
An undated re-impression, from the same typesetting, of Lachmann's edition of 1831. "Lachmann's ideal was to reconstruct the text which was commonly read in the Church towards the end of the fourth century. For this purpose he relied almost entirely on the early uncial MSS., with four Old Latin codices, the two earliest codices of the Vulgate, and the citations in six of the fathers ... Lachmann's work is epoch-making, 'from its courageous rejection of the Stephanus-Elzevir text and deliberate application of critical principles ... to the recovery of a more authentic text from the most ancient authorities.' (F.G. Kenyon)" (D. & M. at no. 4824).
The Greek text is printed in a single column, divided into paragraphs (not verses), with the verse numbers inserted in the text and the lines of each page numbered; with occasional notes of variant readings at the foot of the page.
Burke Library copy: Inscribed by Otto Günsler.
