This is a reissue of the first American edition of the Liturgy and hymns authorized by the Provincial synod of 1849 and printed in 1851. It is based upon James Montgomery's revision of "A collection of hymns" published in London in 1849 under the title "Liturgy and hymns".
The former numbers of the hymns, retained from the late American edition, are re-inserted in brackets.
The numbers of the tunes correspond with those of the Rev. Peter Wolle's "Hymn tunes"--cf. pref.
The liturgy received the sanction of the General synod held at Herrnhut, 1848.
