华林山周围分布着诸多姓氏, 胡姓是其中一大姓氏, 以华林为堂号. 胡氏自南唐在此建学, 至北宋建立华林书院, 不仅表现出江西教化之气象, 也是宋朝提倡文治, 教化大行的象征, 大大促进了华林山周边地区文化, 教育的发展. 有鉴于此, 江西省人大胡振鹏副主任与省文化厅曹国庆副厅长组织一批有志于研究华林山的发展历史的文史工作者, 历经数年, 从众多资料诸如史书, 历代府县志, 书院志, 族谱, 诗文集乃至联语诸多史料中搜集, 爬梳, 并到实地寻访, 考察, 然后整理, 撰稿而编成的《华林往事》一书.
