Edition Notes
Vol. 1 dated 1854.
Vols. 4-6 have added illustrated title page: Woodworth's miscellany.
Many of the articles first appeared in The youth's cabinet, edited by F.C. Woodworth.
"The plan of Woodworth's miscellany of entertaining knowledge is not unlike that of its namesake originally published in Great Britain, and which has had a sale almost unparalleled on both sides of the Atlantic. At the same time, it is proper to state, that this work of Mr. Woodworth is intended for a class of readers somewhat more youthful than those for which Chambers' miscellany is especially adapted ... It embraces the best and spiciest articles that have for several years appeared in Woodworth's monthly magazine for the young, together with a large and equally attractive budget in addition. Woodworth's miscellany is comprised in six volumes. Each volume is embellished with a handsome steel or tinted frontispiece, besides some fifty characteristic engravings."--publisher's advertisement, v. 6, p. [iii].
Both volumes copyrighted in New York by D. Austin Woodworth, volume 2 in 1852 and volume 6 in 1854. According to Allibone Woodworth's miscellany began to appear in 1852.
Pagination, vol. 2: vi, [1], 8-286 p., [1] leaf of plates; v. 6, viii, [1], 10-288 p., [1] leaf of plates.
Each volume includes title index.
