"The designation of Generation of 27, indicated in the book's eponymous title, was known in literary historiography as a group of poets that emerged starting around 1920 under the auspices of Juan Ramón Jiménez. The group's first formal meeting was in 1927 on the anniversary of the death of Góngora. They published their first poems in ephemeral but lasting magazines and their works, which achieved an impossible fusion between tradition and the avant-guarde, were assembled by Gerardo Diego in his legendary anthology in 1932. They were finally dispersed in interior and exterior exile, creating original poetic worlds until senescence. Dámaso Alonso, in 1948, named them the "poetic generation" and literary history considers them the most consistent and valuable literary group that Spanish literature has brought to Europe. Francisco Javier Díez de Revenga, undisputed specialist in the Generation of '27, offers in this book ten approaches to their enduring poetic worlds"--Publisher's website
