Navy Lietenant Gunther Pluschow flew a primitive Rumpler Taube (Dove) monoplane against nine Imperial Japanese army and navy aircraft intent on destroying the German Sky Spy. He survived and escaped under orders to neutral China. He then escaped Chinese internment and later from a British P.O.W. camp and fled to Germany to become a decorated hero.
