Edition Notes

The Arabic original descends from an unknown text, now lost, which is represented by 2 groups of versions: 1. Paris. Bib. nat. mss. (Arab. 3609-3611) or Galland's ms. and 2. The modern Egyptian recension, from which descend the Būlāq (1835) and Calcutta II (1839-42) versions.

From the Paris manuscript the Calcutta I and Breslau versions have descended , both of which have been used as the basis of Payne's translation.

Table of contents of the Calcutta II (1839-42) and Boulac editions; Breslau (Tunis) edition; and Calcutta I (1814-18) edition in v. 3.
