The basis of this edition is the eighth (bicentenary) edition (1891) prepared by Thomas Ellwood and others, with numerous excisions. Additions have been made from the Cambridge university press edition of 1911 and from the Short journal of George Fox (a hitherto unpublished manuscript) cf Pref.
