Translation, by Antônio de Pádua e Belas, of the author's "Des moyens de conserver la paix avec les hommes" which was first printed as part of "Essais de morale", of which the earliest editions can be traced back to France in the 17th century. The Bishop translated the author's work when he was installed in the diocese and dedicated it to his new flock.
The author is identified on page 7 as "Pedro Nicole" and the work it comes from as "Ensaios da moral".
Moraes erroneously gives Antônio de Pádua as the author of this work.
