Thirteen-year old Frankie Lombardi was a 'problem student' and Samantha Taylor, her school guidance counsellor, was determined to find out why. Sure, Frankie acted 'tough' but Samantha suspected that her swaggering exterior hid a frightened little girl.
Juvenile probation officer Vince Larusso disagreed. Frankie was a convicted thief, he pointed out, and becoming involved with her would only bring grief.
