The collection consists of 133 items that are by or about or belonged to the Canadian poet Archibald Lampman (1861-1899) and members of his family and literary circle. It includes numerous examples of the work of Lampman and his contemporaries, as well as that of notable Lampman scholars such as E.K. Brown, Arthur S. Bourinot, and the collection's creator, Michael Gnarowski. Many of the books are enhanced by their provenance. There are titles from Lampman's own library, volumes of Lampman's poetry inscribed by him to various relations, and books inscribed to Lampman and his family members from other poets such as Duncan Campbell Scott, Charles G.D. Roberts, Bliss Carman, and William Wilfred Campbell.

Michael Gnarowski began studying and collecting Archibald Lampman's work as an undergraduate. A portion of the collection consists of the working library he developed over the course of his career in academia and publishing in connection with his Lampman scholarship. In 1996, Gnarowski purchased the Lampman family material that forms the core of the collection from John Metcalf. In 2019, Michael and Diana Gnarowski donated the complete collection to Library and Archives Canada in memory of Daniel and Nina Gnarowski.
