VERGIN (Vehicle Routing Graphical Interface) is a decision support system for the routing of delivery vehicles. The system consists of an algorithm for the vehicle routing problems developed by Fisher and Jaikumar and a color graphics interface for this algorithm designed to take advantage of the inherent graphical nature of the vehicle routing problem. Vehicle routing is a problem of enormous economic importance. The cost of transporting raw materials and finished goods accounts for 15% of the U.S. Gross National Product.
