Edition Notes
Printed in an edition comprising "200 exemplaires d'amateur sur papier de Hollande, gravures sur chine avant la lettre, et 500 exemplaires sur blanc"--Lemer, Julien. Histoire du livre d'Alfred Delvau intitulé Heures parisiennes (Paris, 1872). p. vii. The "exemplaires d'amateur" are on laid paper, the ordinary copies on wove paper.
Illustrations: 25 full-page etchings, signed in image: E. Benassit; signed in lower margin of plate: J. Lemer, éditeur; imp. Delâtre, Paris; with engraved legends. Comprise frontispiece and one plate for each hour of the Parisian day. In the "exemplaires d'amateur," the plates are printed chine collé and without the signatures and legends in lower margin.
In ordinary copies, the plate for "Minuit" is usually found in a censored state from which the figure of Cupid has been effaced; text contains 7 cancels of 4 p. each. These changes were imposed by the censors after printing but before publication, though the "exemplaires d'amateur" were permitted to be issued unchanged. Cf. Lemer, p. xxxiv; Vicaire. For details of textual cancels, cf. Lemer, p. [xxxviii]-xlv.
