"The little booklet called 'Nantucket receipts' was first published in 1874 ... the 'receipts' were originally arranged by Mrs. Susan C. Hosmer ... for the benefit of the Nantucket Atheneum. Afterwards Mrs. Hosmer turned the collection over to Miss Caroline L. Tallant, of Boston, who added to the number of recipes and had it printed."--Explanatory foreword.
