MASS copy: Bound in marbled paper-covered boards. Upper free endpaper with inscription signed by editor: "Only twenty-five copies of the entire volume, including the Preface, were struck off, on hand-made paper. The book was superseded and never issued; arrangements having been entered into by the late W. Pickering with the Frere family on the eve of its publication for a complete edition of W. Hookham Frere's writings and Translations, which was issued in two handsome volumes, with a Memoir by Sir Bartle Frere in 1872, and in a smaller form in three volumes in 1874, with Index to the Memoir compiled by the Editor of the present volume. R. H. S.". With presentation inscription dated 1954 from Sydney Cockerell to Bruce Rogers. With handwritten letter laid in from Sydney Cockerell to "My dear Rogers" dated 1954.
