This describes the start of shortwave broadcasting from The Netherlands and its success in creating a real-time communications link with its colony, the Netherlands East Indies (now the Republic of Indonesia). It was written by a staff broadcaster of Radio Nederland Wereldomroep, Robert Haslach, who used archival materials and interviews with surviving radio pioneers.
