There is plenty of homely philosophy and sound common sense in these chapel addresses, combined with a deep spirituality which makes its impression on every Christian heart. Here is a volume of "folksy" talks which the author has delivered on many occasions, that are spun out of the "old-time" religion and are full of homely advice and sharp reminders that the Christian life is a matter of working hard as well as praying hard. Thousands outside of the college walls will appreciate the reservoir of simple truths which streamed from the author's personal experiences, while motivated by a deep personal interest in his students' spiritual welfare. The author is the Founder and President of the college which bears his name -- a college which, standing without apology for the old faith and for the absolute authority of the Bible, has been going forward with rapid strides. During the last two years it points with pride to a record increase in enrollment of 50%. - Jacket flap.

The 20 messages in this volume are a few of the many chapel talks which I have given to our own Bob Jones College students. We have made no effort to edit these messages. They were mechanically recorded (some of them without my knowing at the time that they were being recorded) and are being released in the exact form in which they were given. The friends who read the addresses will notice that we often mention Bob Jones College, but they will, of course, understand that we were talking to our own students and were endeavoring to drill into them not only the principles under discussion but also the spirit of the institution of which the author is the founder. Having had a wide experience over a period of many years and dealing with thousands of people in the various walks of life, I am fully convinced that even the average Christian can be "a success" in the field of service to which he is divinely called if he will "live up to" the practical philosophy which is emphasized in these addresses. - Bob Jones - Preface.
