I am going out on a limb, but if Archie Perkins had a hand in it: The first thing is what is a Staking Tool?
A staking tool in watchmaking is an anvil base with a table that rotates drilled with an assortment of holes. The upper portion has a tube support where the punches or drivers are inserted to preform a variety of tasks. Driving out parts, installing a new balance staff, removing broken jewels & installing new jewels, install hands... It is an American invention out of Waltham Massachusetts, I believe. Before this device the watchmaker used a die held in the jaws of a vice & punched the rivet... This tool made it a more precise operation with more control & feel to the item being worked. So, this book should contain the proper information on the proper care, use, & tool selection for the right job. Plus a brief history and illustrations. Good Luck! MJR 6 DELT LS
