This is a wonderful story about a man who seemed to be searching for peace in his life, but couldn't find it. He life the noise of the city for a 'quiet life' in the country. There, he found the noises of the farm animals and other country sounds kept him awake at night, woke him up early in the morning and generally made his life miserable. He and his wife moved back to the city. As I remember (after 60 years) he finally discovered the 'beauty is in the'ear' of the listener and that he could find peace by changing the way he listened to the world. It is one of the books I remember so well from my childhood in the 40s. I wish I could get a copy of it. It's a good lesson for all of us.
