Edition Notes

Acquired by LC in 1946 as part of the Third Reich Collection. Has Adolf Hitler's bookplate on front paste-down.
Gassert & Mattern. Hitler library, 96
Manuscript (ostensibly a transcript, handwritten in red and black ink).
Ostensibly copied from a ms. left in a certain unnamed monastery by a visitor named Hesch from the duchy of Jülich. The copyist (or, if he is not writing with candor, the actual author) is F.A. Hoffsess, Bavarian Hofcammer-Secretarius and Bergamts-Oberverweser of Bodenwöhr.
The main section contains a listing by place of the mineral wealth of Germany, followed (p. 138-156) by various chemical tests and recipes.
Includes index, the last page of which is partly torn away with some loss of information.
LC copy has shelf no. VII-c-37. Accompanied by LC correspondence (carbon copy) dated March 3, 1987 with typewritten reply dated May 12, 1987 regarding this item. Correspondence removed from book and shelved with Third Reich Collection miscellany.

Genre
Early works to 1800.
