Palau y Dulcet (2nd ed.) 139933
Medina, J.T. México, 705
The text explicated is book 4 (De octo partium orationis constructione) of Juan Luis de la Cerda's reworking of Antonio de Nebrija's system of Latin grammar (the "arte de Antonio"; for its development and revision see Nebrija, 1441-1522 / por Félix G. Olmedo. p. [71]-105; and Backer-Sommervogel, II, col. 986). Published in 1633 under title: Aelii Antonii Nebrissensis De institutione grammaticae libri quinque, Cerda's version replaced Nebrija's original as the official Latin grammar for the Spanish realms.
Although several bibliographies, including Palau, confuse the licenciado Diego Lopez of Seville with a real Diego Lopez of Valencia de Alcántara, "licenciado Diego Lopez" is the pseudonym of Agustín de Herrera. Cf. Olmedo (p. 103), also reference in Palau preceding item 139944.
Imprint from colophon. On t.p. is the date 1649, and in imprint position a licensing statement and a statement that the book is sold by the Widow Calderon.
