Silva Porto settled in Bie in Angola in the 1840s and engaged in extensive trading
journeys which reached as far as Luba, Katanga, and the Zambezi. The above
publication is of excerpts from his extensive diaries, but publication of the
complete diaries, under the same title and under the editorship of Maria Emilia
MADEIRA SANTOS, has begun from the Biblioteca Geral da Universidade de
Coimbra (Volume I, 1986).
