There is nothing so satisfying as making large and small items of furniture for the home. Two elements are essential for a successful piece of furniture: sound techniques and well-thought out design. This book is accordingly divided into two parts. The first part covers the relevant construction techniques, such as traditional jointing, joints suitable for manufacturing boards, upholstering, and finishing. The second part explains how to put these skills into practice, both in the section on general factors to be considered before drawing up one's own furniture plans, and in fourteen specific plans for various household pieces. These plans and techniques are clearly illustrated by over 500 line drawings and photographs. This book will appeal particularly to those who have mastered basic woodworking skills.
