Oystercatchers

Large print ed.

Amy lies in a coma. Her older sister, Moira, sits beside her in the evenings, in the green-walled hospital room, and remembers her own life. How she became bitter when her beloved parents had their long-awaited second child, and how this resentment and jealousy hardened in her so much that she insisted on being sent away to a boarding school in Norfolk, a hundred miles from the dramatic Welsh coast that had dominated and captivated her childhood. Blindly refusing to see how loved she was, Moira chose to isolate herself at school, refusing even to come home for holidays to her devoted waiting parents and besotted sister, Amy. Even the love of a good man failed to thaw the ice in Moira's heart, and it is only after Amy smashes herself on the rocks that Moira, now wretched with guilt and grief, returns and tells of her part in the fall.

Work Description

Amy lies in a coma. Her older sister, Moira, comes to her in the evenings, sits beside her in a green-walled hospital room. Here, Moira confesses. She admits to her childhood selfishness, adult bitterness and all the wickedness in her life. But it's only at Amy's beside that she sees the real truth: she's been a cruel sister - and it's this cruelty that has led them both to this point.
