Date based on resemblance of text and binding to a dated edition of another work by this author entitled "Die alte Freundin" published in 1885 by Verlag von Gebrüder Kröner. See McLean D 1198.

Publishter's advertisements on p. [1-12] at end printed in black on pink paper.

MASS copy: Bound in red fine diagonal rib-grain cloth blocked in gold, blind, black, blue, white, green, red, brown and yellow; a.e. marbled. Upper cover blocked with titling and illustration replicated from the text. Spine blocked in gold and black and lower cover blocked in blind. Spine with imprint: "Union Deutsche Verlagsgesellschaft. Stuttgart, Berlin, Leipzig". Endpapers with all-over floral pattern printed in grey. Binding design is similar to that used for McLean D 1198.
