This encyclopedia is the language manual for I-APL, the free International APL interpreter. I-APL is an APL interpreter designed to run on the smallest home and school computers. It is a full featured APL that conforms to the standards of the International Standards Organisation's APL language standard, with a few enhancements.
This encyclopedia is a technical reference to the elements of the I-APL language. It is technical in the sense that explanations are not limited to topics of interest to beginning APL users. The action of each APL function is described completely even when a full explanation requires some knowledge of advanced mathematics or needs some difficult notation involving higher dimensional arrays. The main part of each entry is accessible to beginning users and more techical aspects are limited to labeled comments which the reader should feel free to ignore until a special need arises.
The encyclopedia is divided into two parts, Part I contains necessary background information for Part II, the encyclopedia proper, and should be read first, In Part II, the entries are listed alphabetically. They are not designed to be read in any particular order. Full understanding of an entry may require consulting preceeding or subsequent entries.
