Aig fìor thoiseach 1990 bhuaileadh Ciaran MacFhionnlaigh, 7 bliadhna dh'aois, le eucail uabhasach. Fad dà mhìos cha b'urrainn dha càil ach a shùilean a ghluasad. Bha cunnart ann gun rachadh eanchainn a sgrios gu ìre mhòr. Bha e cola-deug an Ospadal na Rathaig Mhòir an Inbhir Nis, Alba, mus deach a chur le heileacoptar gu Ospadal Rìoghail na Cloinne Tinne an Dùn Èideann. Tha an leabhar seo a' leantainn an sgeòil aige gu 1993. Le gràs Dhè chaidh e am feabhas gu h-ioghantach (ach gu slaodach) ged tha duilgheadasan aige fhathast (2010) na chainnt. Is e Fearghas MacFhionnlaigh, athair Chiarain, a sgrìobh an leabhar. Is e Crìosdaidh Càilbhineach a th'ann am Fearghas, uime sin is e cunntas air strì chreidimh a th'anns an leabhar cuideachd. Tha an t-ùghdar gu tric a' cleachdadh ìomhaigheachd Buidseach Oz mar fhrèama-sgeòil. Is e leabhar de vers libre a th'ann, a ghabhas a leughadh ann an trì uairean a thìde, no mar sin. Tha e gu tur dà-chànanach ann an Gàidhlig agus Beurla.

In January 1990, 7 year old Ciaran MacFhionnlaigh was struck with a virus in the brain. This completely paralysed him for three months and threatened him with catastrophic mental and physical handicap. Ciaran was two weeks in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, Scotland, before being flown by helicopter to the Sick Children's Hospital in Edinburgh. This book takes Ciaran's story to 1993. By the grace of God Ciaran has made an exceptional (albeit painstakingly slow) recovery, though he still (2010) has problems with speech. Fearghas MacFhionnlaigh, Ciaran's father, who wrote the book, is a Calvinist Christian, so the book is also an account of a struggle of faith. The author frequently uses Wizard of Oz imagery as a framework. The book is a kind of journal or scrapbook, largely in blank verse, and can be read in around three hours. It is entirely bilingual, with facing pages of Scottish Gaelic and English.
