Signatures: [A]⁴ [B]⁴(-B4); oblong format, horizontal chain lines.
An exhibition at the Houghton Library at Harvard entitled "Lines of Inquiry" displays this engraving on the cover of the catalogue and authenicates the date as 1668 and cites it as "Untitled book of jewelry designs, Metz?, 1668." In the Antwerp Diamantmuseum catalogue of 1993, "A sparkling age: 17th-century diamond jewellery" mention is made to Roupert and his publication of suites in Metz in 1668 which brought the acanthus leaf into the vocabulary of the jeweler. The Berlin Catalogue number 833 lists work as "Rankenornament für Goldschmiede" or "Foliage Ornament for Goldsmiths" and describes the copy we have-- Letter from bookseller Judy M. Cohen dated April 17, 2000.
