An edition of Reading the weather (1915)

Reading the weather

There is some weather folklore, such as it's going to rain if the windows stick. However, most of this book is useful and practical, even though it's old and in public domain. It tells about the characteristics of weather and what type of weather to expect if you see certain cloud formations. It tells how to not get stranded in bad weather if you're camping and don't have access to the latest forecasts, based on nature's signs. Good book for amateur weather forecasters. Note that the word "cyclone" refers to a low front and the word "anticyclone" refers to a high front's approach, not a tornado. Although forecasting methods and tools have changed, weather characteristics and patterns have not so this public domain work is still valuable. Longstreth was one of the prominent meteorologists of his day.
