One hundred mounted unnumbered photographs of the operations of the Army of the Potomac in Virginia, etc. Each plate has caption line: "Incidents of War" preceding an individual caption, and is accompanied by a leaf of descriptive letterpress.
Publication date based on research by Anne E. Peterson, Curator of Photographs, DeGolyer Library, Southern Methodist University.
Another edition has numbered plates and no caption lines.
Library of Congress Copy 1 has Treasury Dept. Library bookplate inside front cover.
Library of Congress Copy 2 has Dept. of State Library printed on front cover.
Exhibited: "The Universal Archive : The Condition of the Document and the Modern Photographic Utopia" at the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), 2008-2009.
