From the Foreword in the book: "THE purpose of this volume is non other than to place on record the names of the pioneers who came from the district of Lochaber, Scotland, and settled in the parish of Mabou, Nova Scotia, together with the name of their descendants in genealogical order. Other families are also included that do not come within this scope but circumstances are such that they may not be omitted"
