Goodbye Bolinas we'll see you again

It's a summer in the sixties near a small coastside town in California. A man who has taken on the name of Shiva is driving north on Highway 1 when he picks up two young women hitchhikers in his VW van. They stop and hike to an overlook of the Pacific Ocean where they are enveloped in fog and one of the women disappears. In an incredulous daze they travel on until they reach Bolinas. After a concert in the local community center Shiva reluctantly takes on the mantle of the next enlightened master. The word spreads and Bolinas becomes a turbulent, fantastic and ecstatic place. Eventually a man comes into Bolinas looking for his lost wife. The situation that arises requires Shiva, as well as his followers, to confront themselves and hehold unforeseen consequences.

First Sentence

""God, it seems so long ago, I was, I was just out of high school, hitchhiking, if you can imagine, me putting out my thumb on Highway One, jeez, in those days, what was I thinking, in those days you could do that, or you just did it, and I wasn't the only one, I had already met people on the road, in fact, I had met this straight-laced woman, who was a little older than me, I wondered what she was doing there, I do remember though, she had just left her husband, a molecular biologist, and here she was, studying psychology, a teaching intern at Stanford, here, standing on this mountain highway."
