Parallel text on opposite pages.
"Present[s] ... the text of Billardon de Sauvigny's Histoire naturelle des dorades de la Chine (Paris, 1780) and ... a Notice (or Mémoire) sent from Peking a few years before, on which Billardon de Sauvigny based his book, together with translations into English." The original Notice is extant and the author is not known. A copy is preserved in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris.
The photographs of the original Chinese scroll (preserved in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris) which accompanied the Notice, are reproduced on a folded sheet as a frontispiece to this work.
