Edition Notes

The study was initiated in 1937 by the State charities aid association, New York. In 1940 sponsorship was taken over by the Committee on social adjustment of the Social science research council, under a Subcommittee on foster-child studies, and active work begun under the direction of Dr. Burks. Upon her death, the work was completed by Dr. Roe. cf. Pref.
