A translation of a work published by the French government and transmitted to the other European governments for the purpose of showing the aggressions of the British. The French original, Paris, 1756, has title: Mémoire contenant le précis des faits, avec leurs pieces justificatives, pour servir de réponse aux Observations envoyées par les ministres d'Angleterre, dans les cours de l'Europe. It includes documents captured from the British at Fort Necessity and at Braddock's defeat
"Major Washington's journal [March 31-June 27, 1754]": p. 117-161
"Letter from M. Robert Napier, written to M. Braddock, by order of His Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland [dated November 25, 1754]": p. 188-194. It was this letter which called forth the ironical defence of the Duke of Cumberland, published, London, 1756, under title: Reasons humbly offered, to prove, that the letter printed at the end of the French Memorial of justification, is a French forgery and falsely ascribed to His R--l H--ss
