This book is about a young black woman from the South who passes for white when she attends a nursing school in the North. She falls in love with a white doctor there but returns to the South. The book was adapted for the screen as the 1949 movie, "Pinky." The movie was directed by Elia Kazan and starred Jeanne Crain, Ethel Waters, and Ethel Barrymore.
