A compilation in five books of the synodal constitutions of the province of Canterbury, from the time of archbishops Stephen Langton (d. 1228) to Henry Chichele (1362?-1443) compiled by Lyndwood and with his gloss commentaries. The work was completed in 1433 and first printed at Oxford in 1483. Regarded by some authorities as law of the Church of England.

William Caxton's device (McKerrow, Devices, no. 2) on V8, X8 verso; Wynkyn de Worde was Caxton's successor.

Initials.

Settings of signatures A-D vary; title has 'Constitutiones' or 'Constituciones'; D2 recto line 1 has: 'etia[m]' or 'ecia[m]'.

In this copy, title has 'Constitutiones' and D2 recto line 1 has: 'etia[m]'. Bound in 16th century calf, covers decorated in blind with fillets and center medallion stamp. 19th century marbled end papers. On front pastedown (on a sheet pasted over marbled paper), book label of John Forbes of Boyndlie, numbered "268" in ink; armorial book label of Lord Amherst of Hackney; bookplate of George Dunn, who purchased it in March 1909. At head of title, initials JH and "#1652". With a few 16th century marginal annotattions.
