Reggie Fortune is at his poetry spoutin' erudite best in this tale of hidden treasure and murder. When a body is found on the roadway it is Reggie who says it was murder, not an accident. And it is Reggie who traces the body to Badon via the dirt under his nails. Several more crimes occur and it is up to him to solve both the murders and the treasure hunt which he does in typical Fortune fashion, bringing it all to a successful conclusion. A Golden Age example of first class detective work.
