Full Title is "The voyage of the Jeannette - the ship and ice journals of George W. De Long, lieutenant-commander U.S.N. and commander of the Polar expedition of 1879-1881"; it is the Captain's personal journal of a 2 year arctic exploration, during which the ship was allowed to be frozen into the arctic ice north of Siberia and just drift with the ice floe while they took state-of-the-art measurements of the weather and ice and ecology of the high arctic ocean. It describes the life of the 30 men on board in personal journaling format, as edited by his widow.
